Changes at HSI – New Leadership Team

HSI is pleased to announce a new CEO and two new General Managers to our organization.

Recently Bill Clendenen decided to take on the role of Chairman of the Board and step down as HSI CEO. Chad Birckelbaw is joining HSI as the new CEO and will be responsible for driving our organization to the next level to better serve and support our customers in an expanding industry.

Chad is the former CEO of FairPay Solutions, a private equity–backed, technology-enabled services business which was sold to a strategic partner in 2014. FairPay’s customer base included large self-insured employers, Fortune 100 insurance carriers, and managed care organizations seeking solutions to better manage risk and control costs associated with corporate spending on workers compensation.

In addition to overseeing FairPay’s development of a new technology platform, Chad was integral to the development of two new product lines that generated significant growth for the organization. Since leaving FairPay, he has been active in consulting with private equity firms and fast-growing, mid-size businesses in areas including strategy, process and leadership development, and product expansion.

A graduate of Illinois State University, Chad has also held several leadership positions for State Farm Insurance. He holds both a Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation. He has actively mentored several technology start-ups in the Dallas, TX area through a local seed accelerator investment organization.

Our emergency care brands (ASHI, MEDIC First Aid, and 24-7) will now be under the direction of Anthony Corwin, General Manager.

Anthony joins us from Guardian Industries, where he served as Global Marketing Director, overseeing marketing strategy development and implementation across Europe, South America, North America, Asia Pacific, and the Middle East/North Africa. His accomplishments with Guardian Industries included extensive market and customer segmentation, leading a digital transformation across the organization, and aligning global priorities with regional execution.

A graduate of California State University – Fullerton, Anthony also led successful marketing campaigns and strategic initiatives through his leadership positions at Custom Building Products, Makita USA, Inc., and Hilt, Inc.

HSI General Manager Michael Petrowski will be responsible for HSI's safety and compliance products and services as the executive leader for the Summit Training Source and SafeTec brands. Most recently the Senior Business Leader in Product Management for GE Aviation, Mike created new business growth strategies and developed multiple third-party teaming relationships to support the organization’s more than $150MM in new business opportunities. He also significantly grew the company’s voice and data recorders product line.

Mike holds degrees from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, and is nearing completion of an MBA from Michigan State University. During his time within both GE Aviation and GE Healthcare, he was consistently recognized in areas such as inclusive leadership, commercial operations, and outstanding teamwork and leadership.

“HSI is looking forward to a future of extensive growth and exciting new business opportunities under the direction and leadership of Chad, Anthony, and Mike,” says HSI Chairman Bill Clendenen. “They bring proven track records and an impressive set of skills that will help redefine our organization as we continue to grow in this competitive EH&S industry.”

“HSI employees are committed to providing exceptional service and quality solutions to the market and I am excited to be joining this team,” adds new incoming CEO Birckelbaw. “Through a combination of technology, content, and delivery we are well-positioned to extend further into the health and safety market with a more comprehensive platform solution.”
