Health & Safety Institute (HSI) is a family of seven brands offering complete emergency care training, continuing education, safety training and chemical compliance solutions with one goal: Making the Workplace and Community Safer. That mission is supported by innovative technology, robust administrative systems and exceptional customer support—three areas that have driven our organization forward since 1977.

HSI delivers high-quality training materials, courses and programs in CPR, first aid and advanced emergency care to healthcare professionals, first responders, employees and the community. Our credentialed emergency care training programs meet the requirements of nearly 5,000 state regulatory agencies, occupational licensing boards and national associations in more than 550 occupations and professions.

HSI offers workplace safety and compliance solutions to help meet state and federal regulations. We provide a robust library of training programs and reporting and tracking tools for workplace safety, and also deliver workplace chemical and hazardous materials management that includes safety data sheet (SDS) authoring, environmental reporting and onsite chemical tracking and inventory.

Chad Birckelbaw

Chad Birckelbaw, CEO

Chad has over 20 years’ experience in the Safety and Risk Management space, working directly with customers to lower costs, reduce losses, improve efficiency and manage the complexity often associated with regulated industries. Prior to joining HSI in 2016, Chad led the growth of a privately held tech-enabled medical cost containment business, FairPay Solutions, for several years prior to its acquisition by Mitchell International. He has also consulted for several firms across various industries in areas of strategy development and execution, leadership and talent management.

Chad holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Illinois State University, as well as holding the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designations.

Bill Viveen

Bill Viveen, CFO

Bill has proven leadership in business start-up and expansion, product development and strategic planning that encompass all corporate disciplines. He has a strong background in management, finance, marketing, sales, distribution, operations and cross-functional team facilitation in private, private equity-backed and publicly held companies. Bill has an excellent record in turning around failing businesses, mergers, acquisitions, integration and other transformative initiatives.

Prior to joining HSI, Bill was President and CFO of First & Main Senior Living, and President and COO of Kamps, Inc.

Bill has a bachelor's degree in business administration from Grand Valley State University.

Frank Powers

Frank Powers, CTO

Frank Powers is the Chief Technology Officer for HSI and is responsible for the development of the information technology infrastructure that manages all the HSI brands.  He brings 15 years' experience developing health and safety training businesses to this role.

Prior to assuming his role of CTO, Frank was the Chief Operating Officer at American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI), the CPR and first aid division of HSI. Before joining ASHI, he was the Director of AED Training and Implementation for Cardiac Science, where he drove the expansion of a national training network of over 200 educators and the automation of training class delivery to 8,000 classes a year. Frank has served in senior management roles with Complient Corporation, Quaker State and Blue Coral/Slick 50.

Craig Mordi

Craig Mordi, SVP of Sales

As Senior Vice President of Sales, Craig is responsible for all aspects of sales at HSI, including implementing sales strategies, driving customer acquisition and managing customer and partner relationships. He is an advocate of following a defined sales process and methodology to improve sales efficiency and deliver predictable revenue. Craig has extensive experience with Software as a Service (SaaS) strategies, sales process, salesforce automation and lead creation.

Craig has over 20 years of sales experience. Prior to HSI, he worked for 3E Company, where he last served as Vice President of Sales - North America. During his time at 3E, Craig was able to obtain a deep understanding of the Environmental Health and Safety industry that allows him and his team deliver market leading support and services to HSI’s customers.

Craig holds a BA in Economics from Eastern Illinois University.

Anthony Corwin

Anthony Corwin, General Manager - Emergency Care

Anthony oversees all aspects of HSI’s Emergency Care business, which includes ASHI, MEDIC First Aid and 24-7. Since joining HSI in 2016, Anthony has played an instrumental role in streamlining the product development process, implementing strategic partnerships and ensuring HSI continues to deliver best-in-class service for all customers.   

Anthony joined HSI from Guardian Industries, where he served as Global Marketing Director, overseeing marketing strategy development and implementation across Europe, South America, North America, Asia Pacific and the Middle East/North Africa. His accomplishments with Guardian Industries included extensive market and customer segmentation, leading a digital transformation across the organization and aligning global priorities with regional execution.

A graduate of California State University – Fullerton, Anthony also led successful marketing campaigns and strategic initiatives through his leadership positions at Custom Building Products, Makita USA and Hilti.

Kraig Haberer

Kraig Haberer, General Manager - EHS

Kraig is General Manager of EHS, with responsibility for the SafeTec strategic business unit. With more than 20 years of active roles in software businesses, Kraig brings extensive product, marketing and operations experience to HSI.

Kraig is the former COO of SiteHawk, an EHS software provider, where he was responsible for business strategy, marketing and day-to-day operations. Prior to SiteHawk, Kraig held senior marketing positions with leading enterprise software companies including SAP, Edgenet and Platinum Technology (now CA).  

Kraig holds a bachelors of Science degree from the University of Illinois.

Nancy Liebig

Nancy Liebig, VP of Client Services, Technical Support and Contract Management

As the VP of Client Services, Technical Support and Contract Management for the Health & Safety Institute, Nancy is dedicated to helping her team - and the departments they work with - create and manage positive customer experiences. The majority of her 15 years with HSI has been in operational support. She’s held past roles as Retention Manager and Project Manager, as well as worked on regulatory and QA projects to help drive acceptance. Because of that diverse background, she’s been able to gain substantial knowledge to then share with the teams she manages, all with the goal of being a best in class support organization.

Before HSI, Nancy worked as a rural community traveling pre-school teacher with Washington County Head Start in Upstate New York, with her caseload including primarily Spanish-speaking families.

Nancy earned her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Northwest Christian University in Eugene, Oregon.

Jeannie Baldwin

Jeannie Baldwin, VP of Human Resources

As the VP of Human Resources, Jeannie is responsible for assisting in HSI’s transformation through attracting and developing the best talent, while building a culture of engagement and innovation. With over 20 years of experience in HR and operations, she is passionate about people and developing cultures that promote positive, productive environments which encourage employees to reach their full potential.

Prior to joining HSI, Jeannie led HR for the North America division of Prodapt.  She was responsible for designing and implementing a scalable HR infrastructure that was critical to supporting double digit growth. Jeannie has applied her passion for people throughout her career in management and consulting positions for companies in the high tech and energy industries.

Jeannie has served on non-profit boards and continues to support children’s charities and causes.

Jeannie holds an MS in Human Resource Development from Villanova University and received a BS in Psychology from Washington State University.

Bill Skowronnek

Bill Skowronnek, Senior Director of Marketing

Bill is Senior Director of Marketing with responsibilities covering all seven brands of the HSI family.  He is accountable for marketing communications, web and social media management, digital marketing and product management. 

Prior to his current role, Bill was as the Director of Marketing for Oliver Wight Americas, a global education and management consulting firm. Before Oliver Wight, Bill was the 2nd VP of Corporate Marketing and Communications for Munich Re, the world’s largest reinsurer for Property, Casualty, Life and Health. His primary areas of responsibilities included advising on client acquisition, retention, messaging, brand management and strategic partnerships.

Bill received his bachelor's degree in Sociology from Eastern Illinois University.
