Instructor Levels and Categories

Instructor: An Instructor is an individual authorized by HSI to certify providers in training programs under the auspices of a Training Center. Current certification as a provider is a prerequisite for eligibility for Instructor authorization.

Instructor Trainer (IT): An Instructor Trainer is authorized to certify providers and train HSI Instructor candidates in a particular HSI brand. To become an Instructor Trainer, a candidate must be a current instructor and (a) take the online Instructor Development Course or (b) take the IT upgrade course from a Master Instructor Trainer or (c) through reciprocity credentials from other training organizations.  Training Center Directors may submit an Instructor Status Change Form to HSI for approval. 

Master Instructor Trainer (MIT): A Master Instructor Trainer is authorized to certify HSI Instructor Trainer candidates, Instructor candidates, and providers in a training program under the HSI family of brands.  Currently HSI is not accepting any requests for Master Instructor Trainer status.
